TE TAI HOU

THE NEW TIDE FOR BASKETBALL

Te Tai Hou brings a fresh new wave of inclusive league offerings we hope will cater to ALL our basketball community. From various ages, mobility and skill levels. Te Tai Hou leagues will have something for everyone.

Te Tai Hou - Kaupapa

Te Tai Hou brings a new wave of inclusive leagues where we hope to cater to ALL people wanting to play basketball in our community. We would like to acknowledge Regan Wineera for his guidance and support in creating the name which embodies a “new wave” or a “shift in tides” from how basketball is delivered in our Capital region. Priding ourselves in delivering the highest quality of tournament administration with a focus on player, referee and coach development. Our goal is to ensure everyone who participates in our Te Tai Hou Leagues has a positive playing experience. A training ground for referees to refine their craft and feel supported and valued. As well as ensuring sideline behaviour is positive and supportive for all in attendance. After a successful pilot season in Term 1 2024 with 3 leagues running in conjunction including Wheelchair Basketball, Walking Basketball and a Club League we invite you to ride this wave with us. All upcoming league info can be found below.

We’re bringing Rangatahi and Whānau together to engage in basketball

Te Tai Hou is a new model of leagues that aims to grow beyond the traditional formats to engage our community and bring people together to enjoy getting active in basketball as one. Our offerings include age, ability, and gender-inclusive leagues that we hope encourage people to play basketball no matter who they are and what their experiences of basketball are; we want everyone to feel comfortable in our spaces and give it a go! We will have options for our newbies through to our regular ballers.

  • Coming Soon

We currently don’t have access to sports chairs, and cannot offer wheel chair basketball at this time.

Wheelchair basketball offers those with physical impairments, who are not able to play standing basketball, the opportunity to play. This league is open to all ages, genders, and abilities as its goal is to bring everyone together and demonstrate there is a place for everyone in basketball.

These sessions will involved chair skills, basketball skills, and 3x3 games. In terms to come, once a base of wheelchair players has been established this will turn into a full wheelchair basketball league.

Players do not have to be daily wheelchair users to play, but priority will be given to players with a disability.
