BBNZ Level 1 Referee Course

For entry level referees in college, representative and community basketball

BBNZ Level 1 Referee Course, formally known as the Community Referee Course.

To gain BBNZ Level 1 Referee accreditation, participants are required to complete:

  • An online theory course,

  • A practical workshop, run by Capital Basketball,

  • A game assessment, administered by a Referee Trainer.

How to get started:

Step 1.

Enrol and complete the self-paced online Level 1 Referee course. You don’t need any previous refereeing experience to begin. Simply follow this link to the course description in the BBNZ catalogue in the SportTutor platform. Set up a SportTutor login, enrol in the ‘Level 1 Referee Course’ and complete in your own time.

Step 2.

Attend a practical workshop (workshop options advertised below).

Ps: you don’t need to have started or finished the online course to attend a practical workshop.

Step 3.

To gain the accreditation, email training@capital.basketball to organise a game assessment once you feel ready. We recommend completing at least 20 hours of refereeing before assessment.
